The "Little Venice"
The city of Comacchio presrves the most original and fascinating historic center of Po Delta Park, UNESCO World Heritage.
Heir of ancient Spina, it has really ancient origins, and today is still a lagoon city that fascinates thanks to its old town, which preserves untouched the original aspect. Po Delta Park's capital, with its Comacchio's Valleys, which represent a top-quality naturalistic destination.
Built to ease the economic development, taking advantage of Po Delta, Comacchio presents itself as a dense maze of canals, with little bridges that link different spots of the city and townhouse with pastel colours, in the most interior quarters.
The Trepponti's Bridge is Comacchio's icon, but it's possibile to visit also the Sbirri's Bridge, Palazzo Bellini, San Cassiano's Cathedral, the Merchants's Loggia and the Cappuccini's Loggia.
Comacchio also hosts some important museums, such as Ancient Delta Museum, the new archeaological museum that also exhibits the precious materials found in a commercial boat of the I century B.C., or the Manifattura dei Marinati, an impotant part of the city's history that explains the eels' production and the importance that this fish always had, and still has, for Comacchio.
