Municipal Theatre
Corso Martiri della Libertà , 5 | Ferrara
As one of the most beautiful examples of theatre in Italy, Ferrara's Municipal Theatre was built between 1773 and 1797, based on a project by Antonio Foschini and Cosimo Morelli, and inaugurated in 1798 with "The Orazi and the Curazi", Marco Portogallo's opera. It is located in Corso Martiri della Libertà, in the city center, pretty near Estense's Castle. On 21st March 2014, the theatre was dedicated to Claudio Abbado's memory, founder of Ferrara Music and main character in operas and memorable concerts in Ferrara for over 25 years.
It is one of the 28 legally recognized "tradition's theatre" in Italiy. Not only a stage for over 160 perfomances every year, including prose plays, ballet, opera, concerts, experimental theatre, kids' theatre, but also the most elegant and spacious conference hall in Ferrara's city center. Throughout the year, it hosts important conferences, especially during cultural festival, journalistic meetings, debates, art conventions. The theatre has a u-shaped map with five orders of daises and gallery, 924 places in total.
